Effect of Selenite and Selenate Uptake by Maize Plants on Specific Leaf Area

چکیده
Abstract—Specific leaf area (SLA; cmleaf gleaf) the ratio of leaf area to leaf dry mass is a key ecophysiological parameter influencing leaf physiology, photosynthesis, and whole plant carbon gain and also can be used as a rapid and diagnostic tool. In this study, two species of soluble inorganic selenium forms, selenite (Se) and selenate (Se) at different concentrations were investigated on maize plants that were growing in nutrient solutions during 2 weeks and at the end of the experiment, amounts of SLA for first and second leaves of maize were measured. In accordance with the results we observed that our regarded Se concentrations in both forms of Se and Se were not effective on maize plants’ SLA significantly although high level of 3 mg.kg Se had negative affect on growth of the samples that had been treated by it but about Se samples we did not observe this state and our different considered Se concentrations were not toxic for maize plants.

Role of Selenite and Selenate Uptake by Maize Plants in Chlorophyll A and B Content
Abstract—Extracting and determining chlorophyll pigments (chlorophyll a and b) in green leaves are the procedures based on the solvent extraction of pigments in samples using N,Ndimethylformamide as the extractant. In this study, two species of soluble inorganic selenium forms, selenite (Se) and selenate (Se) at different concentrations were investigated on maize plants that were growing in nut...
متن کاملRate-limiting steps in selenium assimilation and volatilization by indian mustard
Se can be accumulated by plants and volatilized to dimethylselenide, providing an attractive technology for Se phytoremediation. To determine the rate-limiting steps in Se volatilization from selenate and selenite, time- and concentration-dependent kinetics of Se accumulation and volatilization were studied in Indian mustard (Brassica juncea). Time-dependent kinetic studies showed that selenate...
متن کاملComparison of physiological and biochemical responses of wheat and barley to Selenium by spraying application under rain fed conditions. Nour Ali Sajedi* and Hamid Madani
This study investigated the effect of two forms of Se at three rates (0, 18, and 36 g/ha) on wheat and barley under rain fed conditions. Results showed that spraying application of 18 g/ha Se increased Chl a and Chl a+b contents while the selenium rate 36 g/ha decreased plant pigments. Evaluations of Chl a, Chl b, chlorophyll total a+b, carotenoids, chlorophyll total content, relative water con...
متن کاملBioaccessibility of selenium after human ingestion in relation to its chemical species and compartmentalization in maize.
Selenium is a micronutrient needed by all living organisms including humans, but often present in low concentration in food with possible deficiency. From another side, at higher concentrations in soils as observed in seleniferous regions of the world, and in function of its chemical species, Se can also induce (eco)toxicity. Root Se uptake was therefore studied in function of its initial form ...
متن کاملSynchrotron-based X-ray absorption near-edge spectroscopy imaging for laterally resolved speciation of selenium in fresh roots and leaves of wheat and rice
Knowledge of the distribution of selenium (Se) species within plant tissues will assist in understanding the mechanisms of Se uptake and translocation, but in situ analysis of fresh and highly hydrated plant tissues is challenging. Using synchrotron-based fluorescence X-ray absorption near-edge spectroscopy (XANES) imaging to provide laterally resolved data, the speciation of Se in fresh roots ...
